The Age of the device may have some bearing on this to as Knox security has progressed with newer phones. I have read conflicting reports about whether or not updates are possible with a tripped knox but basically the answer is no. What is the truth? why is my phone giving me mixed messages as to whether or not it is rooted? Is it possible that when i unrooted my phone last year i did it incorrectly and it did not properly unroot? Is there anyway i can fully unroot my phone so i can install an update? However, when i install root checker apps such as SuperSu it says my device is not rooted.

However now when i check the device status it says ''Custom'' meaning it is still rooted. I did root my phone last year but i unrooted it sometime later. I understand that the reason I'm having these problems is because it is saying my phone is rooted. I connected my phone but the update button wouldn't show. I have never updated my phone since i bought it in 2017, so i installed Smart Switch on my PC.

Try downloading software updates using Smart Switch on your PC or visit a customer service centre.'' I have no idea why this is happening but yesterday when i tried to update my Samsung S5 I encountered this message '' the operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorised way.
